Lands for Nagadeepa Viharaya

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation has taken steps to grant several lands adjoining the Nagadeepa Viharaya, Jaffna to the historic temple on a request by its chief incumbent Ven. Navadagala Padumakiththi Thera.

The Thera has made representations to the Government that the lands where the Bodhi Maluwa and Pilgrims Rest were located, did not belong to the temple.

Consequently, officials have been instructed to expedite the transfer of these lands to the temple.

Ven. Padumakiththi Thera said this will enable the temple to go ahead with renovation and development activities which had been held up for some time.

Indian support for tank renovation project

COLOMBO (Lankapuvath) India has extended support to the Sri Lankan Government for its tank reconstruction project which started recently.

Indo-Sri Lanka Foundation Chairperson Magna Manik told Lankapuvath that the foundation has made a donation to the project under the direction of the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

It has also been agreed to provide financial assistance to launch agriculture courses for youth.

Foundation stone laying ceremony for new SLFP Headquarters tomorrow

The laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the new party Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will take place under the patronage of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga at General Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha, Battaramulla close to the Coconut Development Board at 10.31 a.m. tomorrow, September 2.
