Top corporates enter into partnership with ICASL

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) and two of the country's biggest business groups - the diversified conglomerate John Keells Holdings (JKH) and Sri Lanka Insurance (SLIC) signed partnership agreements as the Institute's first Lead Sponsors for a year.

They were joined in this category by the ICASL Educational Trust, a charitable trust dedicated to the benefit of students and members of the ICASL.

Two other corporate entities also formalised partnerships with the ICASL, the National Savings Bank (NSB) as 'Support Sponsor' and SJMS, a firm of Chartered Accountants, as a 'Participating Organisation.'

ICASL President Indrajith Fernando said the consent of big business houses to commit to supporting the Institute's events and initiatives over a specified period would enable the ICASL to raise the profile and reach of its efforts to elevate accountancy standards and practices in Sri Lanka to international levels by releasing it from the need to raise funds on a case by case basis.

Additionally, these corporate sector partners would become more intimately involved in and appreciative of evolving global and local developments in accountancy, the ICASL's contributions to them and efforts being made to keep Sri Lanka abreast of such developments, he said.

Representing Lead Sponsor John Keells Holdings, the Group's Director Ronnie Peiris said: "At a time when corporate governance is receiving increased focus, it is vitally important that the ICASL be fully involved in influencing, designing, developing, consolidating and bringing innovation to the regulatory framework as it applies to financial reporting and accounting."
