'Sri Lanka... Gateway to South Asia' Travel Mart

A special pavilion will be set up at the 'Sri Lanka... Gateway to South Asia' Travel Mart to showcase the exclusive and niche properties available in Sri Lanka, a spokesman for the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau said.

The Boutique Pavilion will highlight properties that have less than 15 rooms but which are sold above US$ 200 per room/per night. These exclusive products are in demand by local and international visitors and the aim of the setting up such a pavilion is to provide a platform for the owners of these properties to showcase their products to visiting local and international buyers.

Sri Lanka... Gateway to South Asia will be held at the BMICH Exhibition Centre for the second consecutive year from October 2 to 5 this year.

It would be an annual event of the SLTB which is also the main sponsor of the event and this year too, this project would be a joint project of the public and private sector of the industry and the relevant organisations have pledged their support for the success of the SLGSA Travel Mart, which has been segmented as Public and Trade days.

The Travel Mart will be open to the public on October 2 and 3 to further strengthen our domestic tourism segment as well as educate the public on tourism products available in Sri Lanka and in neighbouring countries such as India, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan.

The mart will be open exclusively to registered tourism buyers from overseas on October 4 and 5 where approximately 150 buyers are scheduled to visit the Travel Mart and conduct business with the exhibitors.

The objective of the event is to showcase Sri Lanka in all its vibrancy highlighting all special features we have to offer as a destination, while building the concept of tourism in South Asia, which in turn, would further strengthen Sri Lanka's position as the gateway to South Asia, he said.
