JVP condemns assassination

The JVP issuing statement on the Killing of EPDP member Balanadarajah Aiyar states: journalist Balanadarajah Aiyar, who was in charge of EPDP media activities was assassinated by the Vanni Tigers on the morning of August 16 while on his way to the EPDP office after taking his child to school. He served for some time as the editor of 'Eelanathan' Tamil newspaper and the whole democratic populace was shocked to hear of his assassination.

To the best of our knowledge Balanadarajah was not engaged in armed conflict. He always made his pen a weapon to foster his ideology.

The Vanni Tigers had several unsuccessful attempts on the life of Minister Douglas Devananda through suicide bombers. EPDP members including a provincial reporter of Thinamurusu were assassinated by them in the East. They have assassinated a large number of non EPDP persons in several places in the East.

An ordinary soldier of the Army and an informant of the Intelligence Unit Kandaiya Yogarajan were assassinated on July 31. Journalist Balanadarajah Aiyar is the latest victim of the Vanni Tigers.

We in the JVP deeply condemns this brutal assassination and urge the government to take necessary action to top such future occurrences', the release stated.
