A tourist zone for Wayamba mooted

The Wayamba District Development Council meeting was held on Monday under the leadership of Minister S.B. Nawinna at the auditorium of the Kurunegala kachcheri.

Parliamentarians and P.S. Chairmen of the district participated at this meeting along with the Government administrative officials of the Kurunegala District.

Minister Nawinna said people can have their own views but it is the duty of everybody to extend their co-operation and assistance to implement the policies of the Government in power for the good and welfare of its people. Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock Land and Irrigation Bimal Ratnayake said, the previous Government promised to complete the development programme of Wayamba. The UNP Government has criticised the Government's peace process but has yet to present and alternative.

The UPFA Government has planned to set up vocational training centers in every electorate and solve the unemployment problem and we will provide jobs within a short period, he said.

The investors accept our development program. We will develop the roads, cities, and set up a tourist zone in Wayamba as soon as possible, the Minister added. Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe said the Government and the private sector should extend their support to implement programmes to preserve and develop the Wayamba Province.

Deputy Minister of Environment Bandula Basnayake said the Government will formulate policies for the welfare of the masses where an environment for all nationalities to live peacefully will be created.

Wayamba PC Minister of Sports and Youth Neranjan Wickramesinghe. Minister of Lands and Agriculture R.D. Wimaladasa and PC Member Somasiri Goonathilake addressed the meeting.
