Sarasaviya Film Festival

Today's Film: Yakada Pihatu

The annual Sarasaviya Film Festival, the prelude to the Sarasaviya Film Awards ceremony to be held on August 19, is now being held at the Regal Cinema, Colombo.

Today's movie is Yakada Pihatu (Iron Wings). Sulang Kirilli (Aug. 15), Wekanda Walawwa (Aug. 16) and Sakman Maluwa (Aug. 17) are the others in the line-up.

Hitha Honda Pisso, the highest grossing Sinhala film of 2003, Pura Sakmana and Sudu Kaluwara were screened earlier.

Twenty six Sinhala movies screened last year will be competing for 30 awards at the Sarasaviya Film Awards ceremony. Thani Thatuwen Piyambanna is not being considered for awards on the director's request.

A novel feature this year is the Sarasaviya Cinema Pelahera, a two-day 'all about movies' festival at the BMICH, Colombo on August 17 and 18. This includes the screening of six world-class movies.

The Sarasaviya Awards ceremony will be webcast live this year for the first time. The awards ceremony is sponsored by the National Lotteries Board
