Set-up ayurvedic labs, medicinal herbal groves in NCP -President President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has instructed North Central Province representatives to establish ayurvedic laboratories and medicinal herbal groves in the Province to produce quality ayurvedic medicine while saving Rs. 500 million a year for its import. The President during a discussion with Governors, Chief Ministers and Ministers of the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces on plans for provincial development, at the President's Office on Thursday also instructed to fill all existing vacancies in the health nurses service in the North Central Province within the next three years and to provide essential medical equipment to hospitals. A Presidential Office release, said yesterday North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake thanked President Kumaratunga for her intervention to allocate funds to elevate the Kebithigollawa Hospital to a Base Hospital. The President expressed her gratitude over the Teachers' Quarters Project initiated by the Provincial Council and agreed to meet shortcomings in schools on national level. The President instructed to remedy Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council's health service problems expeditiously and recruit technical officers even on a contract basis as a solution to the staff shortage. President Kumaratunga emphasised the importance of equitable distribution of Provincial Council Funds among all areas and appreciated the road development plans implemented by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. Governors Jagath Balasooriya, Saliya Mathew, Chief Ministers Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Maheepala Herat and other Provincial Ministers and officials participated in the discussions. |
