Two bomb blasts kill one, injure 18 others in Pakistan's tribal area ISLAMABAD, Tuesday (Xinhua) One official of paramilitary troops of Pakistan was killed and 18 others were injured Monday in two bomb blasts in Wana in South Waziristan tribal area bordering Afghanistan. When a bus carrying paramilitary troops reached Jandola, two bombs which had been planted underneath a bridge went off, blowing up the vehicle and killing one and injuring 18 others, the News Network International quoted eyewitnesses as reporting. Military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan confirmed the incident and said this was "an act of terrorism." "The bus was returning to Wana from Dera Ismail Khan, some 130 kilometers east of South Waziristan when two remote controlled bombs planted underneath a bridge at Jandola went off, blowing up the vehicle and killing the driver," a local tribesman Malik Anwar was quoted as saying. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The Pakistani army said last week that steady progress had been made in the ongoing war against terrorism in South Waziristan and valleys near the mountainous region bordering Afghanistan. |
