Roshan, Ian and Manouri sparkle at Lectra Monthly Medal by Kandy Sports Correspondent Roshan Dias, Ian Tait and Manouri Jayakody sparkled at the Lectra Monthly Medal Golf Championship organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and sponsored by Noritake and worked at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella. Glorious sunshine greeted the large number of golfers who participated in this tournament in which an intricately worked trophy lined up with 22 carat gold presented by Noritake Limited was at stake. Chairman of Noritake Porcelain Nirosawa was the Chief Guest and distributed the awards. Roshan Dias playing to a handicap of 28 carded a respectable 60 nett to walk away with the title for the Mens Nett Division while Klaes Rasmussen with a nett score of 64 finished runner up. The men's Gross Division was won by Expatriate Ian Tait who got a gross score of 81 while Srinivas Rao had to be content with the runner up berth though he too recorded 81 gross but he was edged out on a count back. The Ladies Division saw a tough battle with Manouri Jayakoddy winning the title with a nett score of 65 but she was given a rough time by Indira Tibblins who was close behind her with a score of 68 nett. The Junior Division was won by Klaes Rasmussen with a nett score of 64 with Sahul Malhothra - the son of the Assistant High Commissioner for India Achal Malhothra emerging runner up with 68 nett. The Mini Junior Division was won by Maleena Awn. When it came to entertainment golf the six hidden holes for ladies was won by veteran golfer Suwen Selvaratnam while Sirath Kasthuriratne emerged the winner among the men. While the Chairman of the Noritake Porcelain distributed the awards Tony Witham and Lalindra Ranaweera and Susie Dias played the role of excellent hosts and also handled the awards ceremony. |
