Motor racing at Pannala on September 5

The brand new racing club, the Asian Motor Racing Club who could be dubbed as babes in existence and veterans in experience will join with the experienced Motor Racing Association which is affiliated to the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) to conduct its maiden race meet at the Pannala International racing track on September 5th.

Eleven events have been carefully selected by the experienced Management team which is driven by racing drivers, marketing and management professionals.

Special timing equipment have been ordered from India to handle the qualifying and race timing to the perfection as required by international racing standards and Indians are expected to fly on time with the timing equipment to undertake this task.

Free practice sessions have been arranged on Friday September 3rd at the race track with lap timing to enable them to get a good idea of their standard and prepare themselves for official qualifying sessions on the following day - Saturday September 4th. This will in lines to the formula I practice sessions carried out internationally.

The events have been restricted to only 11 in order to get larger participation or in other words to get more cars on the starting line but it will be limited to 20 cars per race and the races will be run on the ways of ten laps, so that there is fitness skills and the reliability of all competitors will be essential to be successful at every event. This will also make the races interesting to watch and the spectators will be given a good deal of motor racing.

Another notable feature will be the special arrangements to weigh the cars at the track on all three days, thus the cars cannot become lighter or heavier and thus there will be a control on this aspect of the management of the race.

Officials and track marshalls will be briefed by the experts prior to the race meets in order to achieve maximum output from them during the races. This is the first time that the officials have been given the rules and regulations and their duties and responsibilities in writing by the race organisers.

The officials are also given handsome gift vouchers, transport, accommodation as and when necessary. The AMRC recognises the importance and the difficult task that they perform at the race track. Perhaps for the first time cash prizes will be offered to all winners of the events.

A special programme has been arranged to attract sponsors and special accommodation for sponsors, clients have also been arranged, so that these VVIPS can watch the races in comfort. The AMRC also seeks the co-operation and the assistance of other motor racing clubs who wish to support motor racing in general.

A very large crowd is expected to witness this meet which will be motor racing with a difference and according to international standards.

The races will start at 10 a.m. on schedule and the spectators are advised to get to the track on time.

This is also the first time in Sri Lanka that the time schedule of the racing events has been announced in advance and the spectators could arrive in time for their favourite events.
