400 competitors from Europe for International Run for Peace

The Asian German Sports Exchange Programme in collaboration with the Interim Committee of the Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka will conduct the International Run for Peace in Colombo on February 19, 2005 and in Vavuniya on February 26, 2005.

The International Run for Peace has been organised to bring about friendship and understanding between the Sinhala and Tamil communities of Sri Lanka and hopes to attract competitors from all parts of Sri Lanka. In addition to the local competitors 400 runners from Europe and 100 from Japan and China will take part in the event.

The run will also help to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist destination. It has been initiated by two University students - Martin Bosshart from Switzerland and Stephanie Schrempt from Vienna, Austria who are taking great pains to make the international Run for Peace a tremendous success.
