Business in brief Microsoft's top executive on 'Capacity Building' Executive Director of learning technologies in the Microsoft(r) Education Solutions Group Ms Wanda Miles, would be in Colombo next week for the e-Society Exhibition. Ms Miles would address the forum on "Capacity Building" at the Technical Sessions (from 1 to 3pm) on August 13 at the e-Society Conference and Exhibition that would be held from August 13 to 15 at the BMICH. The presence of this internationally renowned expert will benefit Sri Lanka's education and IT community and is part of Microsoft's commitment to provide an impetus to Sri Lanka's IT industry. Bourse takes a breather Trading at the Colombo Bourse took a breather yesterday in the backdrop of profit taking and decrase of share value of the land and property sector. The All Share Price Index dipped to 1,451.89 points from 1,456.42 on Friday . The Milanka Price Index too dropped to 2,153.00 points from 2,163.34 . The turnover for the day was Rs. 210,234,852. Stockbrokers said that the level of turnover remains healthy and the market was also sensitive towards the political climate. "The imminent release of the corporate sector second quarter results might re-bounce trading and the market took a breather yesterday", they said. Foreign purchases were Rs 28,282,395 million and domestic purchases Rs 232,288,957 million. Colombo Land, Blue Diamonds, Ceylinco Seylan and Talawakelle were heavily traded stocks. |
