More killings in East

A civilian, suspected to be a supporter of rival LTTE faction was shot dead around 7.30 last morning while he was at Mutugala, Welikanda, military sources said yesterday.

According to initial reports, Poovapillai Alidaran, the victim was proceeding towards his paddy field when he was shot at close range by suspected LTTE men. Welikanda Police are conducting investigations.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Mannar two civilians were injured in a shooting incident in the early hours of yesterday as they were shot at close range by two unidentified gunmen suspected to be from LTTE while at their home.

The two victims identified as Dharmalingam Murali, a tailor by profession and Seigu Ravindran, a fisherman at Kovilady, Murunkan in Mannar were admitted to Mannar Base hospital with serious injuries.

They have been shot at close range by using a 9 mm pistol, Police said.

Policemen at the Mannar Police station have donated blood to those victims at the request of medical authorities since they were at critical conditions at the time they were admitted to the hospital.

One of the injured was to be transferred to the Anuradhapura hospital, Police said.

According to initial investigations the two victims from the same family had refused to present at the LTTE office at Pesalai despite the LTTE orders for them to be present there early Thursday.
