Employment funds through supplementary estimate - Jeyaraj

by Our Parliament Correspondents

The previous Government had not made a financial allocation through last year's budget to create employment opportunities during this year, Minister of Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Jeyaraj Fernandopulle told Parliament yesterday.

However, necessary funds for creating such employment could be allocated through a supplementary estimate, said the Minister replying to a question raised by Matale District UNP MP Ranjith Aluvihare during yesterday's oral question session in the House.

He also said the Government has not received any instructions from the World Bank to retrench state sector employees.
