Induction of Dental Association President The induction of Prof. Malkanthi Chandrasekera as the 73rd President of the Sri Lanka Dental Association will take place on August 8 at the auditorium of the Plant Genetic Resource Centre, Gannoruwa, Peradeniya. Governor of the Central Province Monty Gopallawa will be the chief guest and the guest of honour will be Director General of Health Services Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage. Prof. Chandrasekara is Professor of Anatomy at the faculty of Medicine, Peradeniya. She entered the Faculty of Medicine, Peradeniya for the dental surgery course in 1970 and qualified in Bachelor of Dental Surgery with second class honours in 1974. She worked as a dental surgeon for a period of one year at the Dental Institute, Colombo and thereafter joined the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Peradeniya in 1975 as a demonstrator in Dental Anatomy and Histology. She was appointed a lecturer in anatomy in 1976 and served in this capacity till 1983. She was appointed senior lecturer in Anatomy in 1983 and Associate Professor in Anatomy in 1994 and in 2000 was appointed the Professor of Anatomy and continues to hold this post to date. She proceeded to the United Kingdom for her postgraduate studies and was awarded the doctorate in 1983 by the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. She also completed her primary F.D.S.R.C.S in 1978. She has presented many papers at both national and international fora and has many publications to her credit. She is a past pupil of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo. |
