Central Bank denies accusation against GoldQuest GoldQuest International Hong Kong in a press release states that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has denied accusations against GoldQuest. The release added: "GoldQuest refers to a false statement published against GoldQuest with regard to the so-called 'Sigiriya Coin'. Following some press notices placed by the Central Bank 'that certain individuals/organisations have been fraudulently claiming that they have been authorised to mint and issue a commemorative coin depicting 'Sigiriya' in collaboration with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka', a certain newspaper reported that 'senior Central Bank officials' have stated that GoldQuest has made a claim specifically relating to the above. GoldQuest International Ltd. and its associate company the Mayer Mint GmbH of Germany have categorically rejected such a claim against GoldQuest as baseless, and have stated that neither company has at any stage wanted 'to mint and issue' a Sigiriya coin nor have they given out any such public comment of intention to issue such a coin. In response to a letter addressed by GoldQuest's Chief Legal Officer to the Central Bank on this matter, the Central Bank's Director Legal has replied to GoldQuest that the Superintendent of Currency' Mr. Wijesinghe is not aware of the basis on which the newspaper report sent by you has ascribed statements to unidentified 'senior Central Bank officials, nor can he or the Central Bank take any responsibility for such reports'." |
