No discrimination against N-E grads, Amunugama tells TNA by P. Krishnaswamy All eligible graduates from the North-East will be given jobs under the Government's scheme of absorbing 30,000 graduates into the State sector, Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama told Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs. Dr. Amunugama who met a delegation of TNA MPs last Tuesday at the Parliamentary Complex, said that all allegations of discrimination against North and East candidates were incorrect. The Minister said the names of a majority of applicants from the two provinces were not included in the list of the 17,000 already selected, because of delays on the part of the Divisional Secretaries to transmit the applications. "This was explained to the TNA delegation," Dr. Amunugama told the Daily News adding that all eligible candidates will be included in the final list before August 31. A TNA delegation comprising Parliamentarians Joseph Pararajasingham, Selvam Adaickalanathan, K. Sivajilingam, N. Raviraj, K. Gajendran, Jayananthamurthy, K. Thangeswary and K. Pathmanathan met the Minister in the wake of demonstrations, hartals and picketing in several places of the North and East last Monday in protest against alleged discriminations against candidates of the North and East in the selections already finalised. As part of the demonstrations, a picketing was staged in front of the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat while hartals were staged in Batticaloa and Ampara districts completely paralysing normal life. |
