Justice Ministry condemns attack on Balapitiya HC Judge

Our Ministry considers with grave concern the alleged assault and attempted physical harm on the High Court Judge, Balapitiya by a person who forcibly entered the residence at about 3 a.m. on 29th July, 2004.

This is another incident consequent on the deterioration of law and morals in the country which has been going on for a long time, Justice and Judicial Reforms Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne said yesterday.

"This is a very despicable act. I believe that the time has come to take more effective and serious action to protect the judiciary.

"I wish to state that prompt action is being taken to launch a joint programme in this connection by our Ministry with the assistance of the Police Department and the Judicial Service Commission.

"Also, I wish to appeal to all law abiding citizens of the country to extend their maximum support to this Ministry in this endeavour."
