Pakistani provincial government chief escapes attack, guard killed QUETTA, Pakistan, Tuesday (AFP) Armed men attacked the motorcade of the chief minister of southwestern Pakistani province of Baluchistan Monday, killing his security guard but the politician was unhurt, a senior official said. Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yusuf, who heads the provincial government, escaped unhurt from the attack in Ingeera town, near Kuzdar district, some 310 kilometers (195 miles) south of the provincial capital Quetta, local home secretary Abdul Rauf told AFP. "The assailants who were hiding in the mountains opened fire when the chief minister's convoy passed the Ingeera intersection," he said. A police guard died and two others were wounded in the attack, Rauf said. The attack came a day after unidentified gunmen shot dead five soldiers and one civilian in Kuzdar. The chief minister had gone to Kuzdar to investigate Sunday's killings, Rauf said. |
