Five injured in grenade attack on EPDP office by Ranil Wijayapala Four Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) members and a Police Constable were injured as the EPDP office in Valachchenai came under hand grenade attack last morning around 7.30, military sources said yesterday. According to initial investigations, two unidentified men had come on a motorcycle and had carried out this attack. Suspected to be from LTTE, they had thrown the hand grenade into the EPDP office in Valachchenai, the sources added. The four injured persons and the Police Constable were admitted to Valachchenai hospital, the sources added. Kandan Candiah alias Shiva the provincial EPDP leader who contested the last general election on the EPDP list was seriously injured in the incident. He is now undergoing treatment at Valachchenai hospital. Valachchenai Police are investigating the incident. Valachchenai Police are also investigating into another hand grenade attack which occurred at Valachchenai on Monday around 11 am. According to Police, unidentified men who came on a motorcycle had exploded a hand grenade near the Valachchenai Post Office and had fled the area. No casualties were reported. |
