by Sarath Malalasekera Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Ms. Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena yesterday issued notice on the CID, OIC Special Investigation Unit, to appear in court on August 9 following an anticipatory bail application by Commissioner of Department of Registration of Persons Vijaya Ranasinghe. The anticipatory bail application was supported by President's Counsel D.P. Kumarasinghe. He submitted to court that the media had published that his client would be arrested in connection with issuing forged national identity cards to the woman suicide bomber and her accomplice Sathayaseelan Selvakumar recently. The Commissioner had no hand in issuing the forged national identity cards to the woman suicide bomber or to her accomplice. But the media in front page stories had published that his client would be arrested for issuing forged national identify cards to the woman suicide bomber and her accomplice. President's Counsel Kumarasinghe also submitted that his client had assisted the investigators by supplying with relevant documents pertaining to the issue of national identity cards to the suicide bomber and her accomplice. Commissioner Ranasinghe joined the Public Service on January 15, 1973 and had worked in several Government Departments including the Immigration and Emigration Department without a single complaint, the senior counsel said. After submissions by Kumarasinghe the Judge directed the CID to file objections, if any, on the next date, August 9. President's Counsel D.P.Kumarasinghe with Chandika Perera Dharmawardena supported the bail application. |
