New IBSL diploma course in Finance and Bank Management

To keep pace with the changing world of banking and finance the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL), the premier institute in providing, banking and financial qualifications will shortly introduce a new diploma course in Banking and Finance. The new course will be inaugurated on September 5, at the College of Banking and Finance which will be conducted by qualified lecturers and specialists in the banking and financial field.

The diploma course which is of one year duration, has been primarily designed for candidates to develop their knowledge and skills in management with special emphasis to banking environment. The candidate who are already employed in banks and financial institutions with eight years of work experience will get an opportunity to become qualified bank-professionals while the course is open to those who are interested in acquiring and improving knowledge and management skills.

Consisting of 10 modules, the diploma course covers a wide range of areas such as financial organisation, bank marketing, leasing and insurance, basic accounts, project appraisal and financing, strategic planning for finance and bank business, branch banking and computing for bankers. One of the important features in this Diploma Course is that each candidate has to submit a project report pertaining to a subject covered in the Diploma Program in consultation with the Program Director.

This will enable participants to use and apply the knowledges acquired through the course work and other academic activities in practical situations relating to the organisation whereas he is employed.

The project report the candidate has to submit should be carried out under the supervision of a qualified lecturer.

This will carry marks which will be counted at the evaluation of the candidates performance for award of the diploma, in addition to the performance of the examination held at the end of the course, tests at the end of each module, tutorials, term papers, exercises presentation. Submission of project report is compulsory and therefore will earn marks which is added to the final evaluation criteria required for the award of Diploma.
