Record trading volumes at Bourse The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) reached another milestone yesterday by recording its highest number of transactions for a given day. The CSE recorded 10,145 transactions surpassing 8,153 trades recorded on March 25, 1998, a spokesman for the CSE said. The CSE has recorded an increasing number of transactions in the last three months. A total of 46,957 trades was concluded in May 2004 while in June there were 54,654 transactions. In July the total number of transactions increased by 75.8% to 96,118. At the close of trading yesterday the All Share Price Index (ASPI) stood at 1,475.5 points reaching its highest point in its history. The ASPI recorded a growth of 413.4 points (38.9%) so far for the year making the CSE one of the best performing markets in the world, he said. The top five gainers were Associated Prop, C T Land, Asso. Hotels, Lankem Ceylon and Lankem Dev. |
