News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Ex-UNP Minister had not returned two vehicles - Police by Sarath Malalasekera The Maligawatta police yesterday told the Colombo Additional Magistrate Ms. L. Liyanarachchi that the ex-UNP Minister Mahinda Wijesekera had not returned two vehicles which was in his custody at the time he was the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. Inspector Neranjan Abeywardena, OIC, Maligawatta yesterday filing a comprehensive report in connection with ongoing investigations said that the two vehicles, a defender jeep, bearing registered number 50 - 6813 and Motorcycle number G.D. 3795, had not been returned to the Ministry by the ex-minister Wijesekera. Investigations also revealed that these two vehicles had been used by the employees of the ex-minister. The Motorcycle had been recovered by the Matara Police from the residence of ex-Minister Wijesekera, but, the Police was unable to recover the defender jeep, the Maligawatta Police told court. Considering the application by the Maligawatta police the Magistrate directed them to conduct further investigations to trace the defender and submit a report on November 16. |
