Britain downgrades travel warning on Sri Lanka

LONDON, Monday (AFP) Britain on Monday downgraded a travel warning for its nationals heading to Sri Lanka, but still cautioned against all but essential trips to the north and east of the island. The Foreign Office in London said in a statement that it had removed its previous warnings against all trips to the north and east, but still advised travellers to take great care.

More cadres for STF

Two Thousand and sixty personnel, including sixty Sub Inspectors, will be recruited to the Special Task Force (STF), STF Commandant DIG Nimal Lewke said yesterday.

Applications will be called through the Police Headquarters for these posts next week.

The selected candidates will be given training by the STF and will be absorbed to the STF, DIG Lewke said.

A five-year-old girl Y. W. H. Hansika Karunathilaka of No.279/5, Kalutara Road,Matugama suffering from severe heart disease has been advised to undergo early Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) surgery to save her life.

The cost for the operation will be around Rs.230,000. Her father Asoka Karunathilaka appeals to the public for their generous contributions to save his daughter's life.

Those who wish to send in their contributions should send them to A/c No. 1-041050-2 at the Bank of Ceylon, Matugama branch.

'O' positive kidney urgently needed

Mrs. Aysha Nafli Hameem (38), a mother of two of No. 463 A/2, I.D.H. Road, Gothatuwa is suffering from advance chronic kidney failure. Consultant Physician and Nephrologist Prof. Rezvi Sheriff has recommended an urgent kidney transplant following kidney machine treatment for 2 to 3 months, to save her life.

Her husband M. Hameem, Additional Registrar, Colombo District Secretariat requests a kind donor willing to donate an 'O' positive kidney to facilitate her surgery.
