Maharagama special corr The Land Reclamation and Development Corporation entered into an agreement to produce manure out of Salvinia and other aqueous weeds in lands and water ways of Colombo district with the Tropical Organic Biomade (Pvt) Company. We have any amount of engineers, technicians of our own but we try to get advice and technical expertise from foreign consultants. This attitude of thinking should be stopped to strengthen and develop our motherland, said Minister of Urban Development and Water Supply, Dinesh Gunawardena at a ceremony. The Minister added "If we give assistance and urge our own technicians they will do well. The abilities and knowledge of scientists and technicians are used in other countries. No country can develop without placing confidence in their own people. All what we get from other countries as aid are payable with interests and loans that even our next generation is indebted to other countries. So we must strive to utilize those loans for profitable projects', Gunawardena said. Chairman of the Lands Reclamation and Development Corporation Somaweera Chandrasiri said the corporation had not done anything to develop the land. 'It did only land reclamation work. Most of the marshy land has been filled without any plan. Filling lands and selling them to their supporters was the only thing they have done so far. Recently we had a dialogue with the Mayor of Colombo Prasanna Gunawardana and began a mass project to clean the canals and water ways in Colombo Municipal Limits', he said. The agreement was signed by the Chairman/Director of the Tropical Organic Biomade (Pvt) Company D. K. L. Heendeniya. |
