US reiterates support for peace efforts Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Donald A Camp yesterday reiterated the United States' support for a durable peace in Sri Lanka. Camp said the United States was keen to see the resumption of peace talks between the Government and the LTTE soon. Both sides must exhibit a degree of flexibility in this process, he added. "Everyone has good intentions. There must be a way forward to get over this impasse. It will be good to see the peace process pick up speed," Camp told a group of newspaper editors in Colombo. Camp called for an end to the violence in the East which impedes the peace efforts. He observed that the international community was fully backing the peace process, though the hard decisions will have to be made by both parties to the conflict. The United States fully supports the endeavours made by Norway to bring both sides back to the negotiating table. |
