Japanese carp streamers fly in Colombo The skies over the Colombo city and its suburbs are teaming with various sorts of kites flying gaily amidst winds prevalent during this season. But for the first time this year, Japanese carp streamers have joined the fun and are now flying amidst the winds at Kiddies Fun Land, Havelock Road, Colombo 5, close to the Park Road junction. Carp are fish that swim powerfully against strong currents. These traditional Japanese carp streamers are flown on Children's Day in Japan to symbolic the wish that boys will achieve success and become strong and confident. This rare display has been exhibited by the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Sports and Recreation Division of the Colombo Municipal Council. These carp streamers were officially hoisted at the Kiddies Fun Park by Trixie Nanayakkara, Director, Sports and Recreation, Play Grounds and Recreation Department of the Colombo Municipal Council and Shuzo Moriyama, Secretary, Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of Japan, on July 27. It will be on display until August 8. |
