SEC ends trading on strong note

The Colombo Stock Exchange closed on a strong note yesterday in the backdrop of the second quarter results of the most bluechip companies.

Stock Brokers said that investors were enthusiastic yesterday since most of the bluechips have done well during the second quarter and the news on SLT recording Rs. 2 billion profit also attracted positive sentiment.

The All Share Price Index rose to 2,192.39 points from 1,434.67 on Thursday and the Milanka Price Index jumped to 1,454.36 points from 2,154.98.

The turnover for the day was Rs. 469,696,127. Colombo Land, Blue Diamonds, C.T. Land, SLT, NDB Bank were heavily traded stocks. Domestic purchases were Rs. 6,759 million and foreign purchases Rs. 183 million. Top five gainers were Mullers, Stafford, Colombo Land, Lankem Ceylon and Ferntea Ltd.
