12th annual NCE awards ceremony on August 13 by Sudarshana Perera The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka will hold its 12th annual NCE awards ceremony on August 13 at the Colombo Hilton. The event is to recognise the performance of exporters in Sri Lanka while encouraging them to improve their business vistas in the export trade. This was made known at a media briefing at the Taj Samudra on Tuesday. The Daily News is a media sponsor for the event. Executive Director, NCE, Rasa Weerasingham said that their chamber is fully committed to motivate Sri Lanka exporters to reach greater heights in their export business and the NCE awards ceremony is one such step taken in that regard. President, Kingsley Bernard said that the NCE would take further steps to increase the membership of the association particularly in rural areas. We have a membership of 500 at present and we will attract a higher membership. The NCE Awards ceremony now in its twelfth year has to date felicitated over 700 exporters, from just nine awards from 28 applications at the beginning, all who have made significant contribution towards the export economy, despite challenges and obstacles in the local and global markets. The Awards which are not only based on sectors, also include categories in small, medium, large and extra large in addition to the Outstanding Gold awards in each sector and the topmost awards for the Most Outstanding Exporter of the Year recognising the Best Woman Exporter of the Year and the Sri Lankan Brand Exporter of the Year as well. In order to constantly improve standards the criteria have been reviewed annually with special emphasis extended towards 'value addition' this year. |
