News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | WPC schools' shortcomings will be rectified assures Chief Minister The new Chief Minister of Western Provincial Council Reginald Cooray assures that action would be taken to remedy all possible shortcomings of the WPC schools, mainly the Muslim schools that are not given adequate facilities. This assurance was given by WPC Chief Minister Reginald Cooray when he met a delegation from the Democratic Unity Alliance - DUA headed by its Secretary General and Leaders' Council Chairman Hafiz Nazeer Ahamed at the Chief Minister's Office in Colombo on Tuesday. The Chief Minister also assured the DUA delegation that every possible assistance would be given to fill the existing vacancies in the WPC Schools for graduate teachers during the teacher's recruitment process shortly. Mr. Cooray told the delegation that he would undertake possible development activities in Muslim Educational field in the Districts of Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara. Hafiz Nazeer Ahamed, while congratulating the Chief Minister on his appointment briefed him about several shortcomings that exist in the Muslim Schools including the scarcity of teachers, buildings, furniture and water facilities. According to the DUA's Chairman and former Parliamentarian M. I. Uthumalebbe who was associated at the meeting said that DUA has taken steps with the Ministry of Education and Provincial Councils' Education Ministries to fill all existing vacancies during the recruitment of trained and graduate teachers. A. J. M. Muzammil, WPC member of DUA was also associated at the meeting. |
