Responding to a question raised by UNP MP Joseph Michael Perera about the non-existence of consultative committees in Parliament, the Minister said the non-appointment of committees at Parliament was due to Opposition demands for a majority in the committees. "We are not ready to give majority for the Opposition at any of the committees," the Minister added. Leader of the House and Minister Maithripala Sirisena said it has been agreed at the party leaders meeting to appoint a Select Committee. "We will soon appoint committees after appointing the select committee," the Minister added. UNP MP Joseph Michael Perera, following the submission of reports by Ministers for relevant committees, raised a point as to which committees those reports were referred since committees have not yet been appointed. Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara said those reports will be referred to respective committees after they are appointed. The Speaker said at the party leaders' meeting that it was agreed to appoint committees soon. |
