National volleyball pools to be formed

The National Youth Services Council has decided to recruit men and women between the ages of 18 and 25 years to form national volleyball pools.

The sports activities of the NYSC was badly neglected for the last two years and the Youth Sports Festival has also not been held.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Jeevan Kumarathunga had decided to re-organise the sports division of the NYSC and to bring back the past glory of the council in sports.

The minimum height of the men should be 180cm and women 170cm and they should have G.C.E.(O/L) with six subjects including Maths and Sinhala. The recruits must be active sportsmen and sportswomen who are playing in provincial teams.

NYSC has decided to establish a volleyball reserve of 20 men and 20 women. The selectees will be given training at the Youth Centre, Maharagama by the national level trainers.

The boarding facilities and meals will be given to the trainees during the training period.

The sportsmen and sportswomen with the relevant qualifications should send in the applications on or before July 15, 2004 to The Assistant Director (Sports), Sports Division, The National Youth Services Council, High Level Road, Maharagama.
