JHU will work with Govt. if TNA behaves undemocratically - Ven. Athuraliye Ratana Thera

The Parliamentary group leader of the Jathika Hela Urumaya Ven. Athuraliye Ratana Thera said yesterday that they would jointly work with the Government towards the stability of the country if the MPs of the Thamil Arasu Kachchi (TNA) take an undemocratic stance in the Parliament.

Expressing views on inflammatory remarks made by Thamil Arasu Kachchi MP K. Gajendran, Ratana Thera said that as MPs who took oaths to protect democracy in the country they cannot make undemocratic statements in this House.

"They cannot represent any other organisation in this House, they should act according to the traditions of the House and according to the Constitution," Ratana Thera added.

The Thera said the Jathika Hela Urumaya sat with the Opposition since there was no third slot in Parliament, where they can sit separately.

Leader of the House and Minister Maitripala Sirisena said the government rejects the inflammatory remarks by the TNA member and requested the Chair to delete those inflammatory remarks from the Hansard.
