Airmen held to a draw

by Bernard Perera

The Kit Premier League Soccer encounter between Air Force and Java Lane SC ended in a one all draw at City League Grounds, Colombo yesterday.

The ground which was slippery and muddy both teams failed to produce good soccer on both sessions. Java Lane SC after 29 minute got ahead through a goal scored by M. N. Hamid. Upto this stage it was Java Lane's domination.

Airmen took full control of the game and pushed ahead looking for the most wanted equaliser. This process produced good results when in the 44th minute C. Kumara Fernando got the equaliser when Slave Island clubs custodian made the mistake by not positioning himself properly. The teams returned for lemons with the score card reading 1-1.

After the Lemons it was Airmen all the towards opponent territory. This session saw the Java Lane players lacking stamina to match the fitter Airmen. They had almost 70 percent of possession during this period. Airmen who were in a strong position failed to capitalise at this stage missing two easy scoring opportunities.

Priyanga Peiris controlled the game.
