The Director General of Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) Jayantha Dhanapala yesterday visited Batticaloa to observe the situation. According to reports from Batticaloa the Head of the Peace Secretariat met the Security Forces, Police and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in Batticaloa. He also met Bishop of Batticaloa, Rt. Rev. Kingsley Swampillai, the Chief Incumbent of the Hindu Institution 'Ramakrishna Mission', Jeevanada Maharaj and the Government Agent for Batticaloa V. Shanmugam. He discussed the security situation in Batticaloa with senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army, Police and Special Task Force. He also reportedly met the authorities of the Batticaloa prison to observe the situation following Thursday's incident. |
