Singer Mega Cup for ladies golf by Richard Dwight In this, the historic year of the Royal Colombo Golf Club, where the RCGC celebrates its 125th anniversary, the ladies section of the club have organised and conducted quite a few golf competitions to mark this significant milestone in the life of the RCGC. One amongst which is the Singer sponsored medal round competitions that is now in progress and will be spread over the golfing year for the Singer Mega Cup. This was made known to the media at a briefing held at the Singer (Sri Lanka) head office by the caplin of the ladies section, Anne Captain on Tuesday. Anne Captain, addressing the media further in the presence of the Chairman 'Singer', Hemaka Amarasuriya said the medal rounds which are now in progress has around 25 competing right through the golfing year. It is being held in two divisions the 'Silver' for those with handicaps between 0-20 and the 'Bronze' for those with handicaps between 21-36, with play taking place on every second wednesday of the month, and an additional round, if there be an extra Wednesday in the month. There is an operative points system, which enables to determine the leader and runner-up after each round in the two respective divisions for which prizes will be awarded. This competition being sponsored by singer Mega and, the ultimate winner in the Silver division at the end of the golfing year, will be adjudged by the best aggregate gross score recorded and will be awarded the 'Singer Mega Cup' with prizes for the runner-up and the one placed third. The same will apply for the Bronze division, where the winner will be determined by the aggregate gross score-with Bronze prizes for the first, second and third. The concept of Singer 'Mega" originated in 1998 and is being well sustained to be the brand, to be beneficial for its customers. The gala awards ceremony and dinner will be held in January next year. |
