Picketing campaign opposite Hanguranketha Police station by Bandara Pilawala Freedom Alliance Central Provincial Council member Jayaratne Dissanayake yesterday alleged that the UNP thugs responsible for attacking him and his supporters near the Hanguranketha Rest house were today roaming in the area freely because certain officers attached to the Hanguranketha Police had got them bailed out after providing wrong information to court. Dissanayake made this allegation at a press conference held on Wednesday following a peaceful picketing campaign held opposite the Hanguranketha Police station to protest against Police inaction regarding the recent incidents of violence where he and his supporters returning after the announcement of the recent PC election results were attacked by thugs opposite the Hanguranketha Rest House. Dissanayake said some of his supporters who were injured in this incident are still hospitalised and receiving treatment. Furthermore the suspects involved had several cases pending against them. Had the Police disclosed this in court these suspects would never have been granted bail. Police officers who produced these suspects had hidden this information from court and as a result they had been released on bail, he alleged. Kandy ASP Sarath Wickrama was also present during the conference. The participants later visited the Vishnu Devalaya and held a pooja after which they dispersed peacefully. |
