Get together for country's sake, says Mahanayake Thera by Indika Polkotuwa The Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera, Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter told political leaders to act together to solve problems of the nation. In an anusasana to UNP Deputy Leader and Gampaha District MP Karu Jayasuriya, who called on him, the Mahanayake Thera, said politicians should get together at least for the sake of the well-being of the country forgetting petty party politics. "In the face of a national crisis, all must forget differences and unite for the sake of the country. In the past, the people belonging to different ethnic communities lived in peace and harmony in villages. The mere lip service to achieve peace will not take us nowhere unless we unite and seriously dedicate ourselves to achieve peace through negotiation," the Mahanayake Thera said. Jayasuriya endorsing the Mahanayake Thera's views conceded that there would be no country to save for posterity if each political party followed its die-hard policies. He underscored the importance of acting together to solve national problems including the North and East problem. "We have to implement a policy plan formulated on a national consensus," he said. Kandy District MP Abdul Cader and Prof. Anuradha Seneviratne were also present. |
