Industry, Tourism and Investment Promotion Minister Anura Bandaranaike will leave for China next week to discuss the recommencement of Thulhiriya and Mattegama textile mills as joint ventures with the Chinese Government.

The Minister will make this visit to achieve this objective under the instructions of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, a press release issued by the Ministry said yesterday.

The Minister will be accompanied by the Ministry Secretary, Chairman, Tourist Board and another high level delegation. Minister Anura Bandaranaike will also meet the President of the People's Republic of China, the Foreign Minister, the Tourism Minister and the Industries Minister during his visit.

The Minister will also participate in the tourism exhibition in Beijing from July 22 to 28. Fourteen private sector institutions are also expected to participate.

Another objective of Minister Bandaranaike's visit to China is to expand the SriLankan air service now operating to Beijing to other main cities in China and to promote Sri Lanka as a popular tourism destination among the Chinese.

China which has a longstanding relationship with Sri Lanka has also made arrangements to promote Chinese investments in Sri Lanka enabling a large number of Sri Lankans to get jobs.
