Call to transfer Karuna faction LTTF detainees to safer prison The JVP in a memorandum to the President has drawn her attention to the need to transfer all LTTE detainees belonging to the Karuna faction in Batticaloa prison to a safer prison as their lives are threatened by detainees belong to the Wanni faction. The memorandum signed by JVP Publicity Secretary Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said an LTTE detainee in the Batticaloa prison had recently shot dead two LTTEers belonging to the Eastern faction within the prison recently. The biggest question was how these detainees could gain access to firearms within the prison. Those responsible for allowing firearms to be smuggled into the prison should be identified and severely dealt with. The memorandum said the LTTE Wanni faction always blamed the security forces for every killing in government controlled areas. They may even apportion blame on the security forces for the recent killings within the Batticaloa prison. When LTTE cadres belonging to the Wanni faction were killed by Eastern cadres in LTTE held areas too the Wanni faction blamed it on the security forces. The same allegation is being made against security forces by the UNP which is a hireling of the Wanni LTTE organisation. But everyone keeps mourn when eastern cadres were being killed by cadres of the Wanni LTTE faction. The release said the LTTE Wanni faction had also disclaimed responsibility for the woman suicide bomber who blew herself up after a failed attempt on EPDP leader Douglas Devananda's life recently. Although many people argued that the activities of LTTE Eastern cadres were a hindrance to peace and restoring of negotiations, no one considered the repeated killings perpetrated by Wanni cadres as a violation of the Ceasefire Agreement and a hindrance for restoring negotiations for peace. The JVP would therefore request the Presidents special attention to this situation. Copies of the memorandum has been sent to all diplomatic missions and the media. |
