| Twenty candidates receive no votes by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen Twenty candidates from three political parties received no votes at all from the Administrative district of Kandy at the PC election on July 10. These could not be attributed to the low voter turn out as around 53.95 voted or 483,020 voted at this election. What is most surprising is the fact that even the candidates themselves had not cast vote as this would have broken the 'duck'. Or it could be also that their votes would have been rejected. The break of these zero votes is: Independent Group I received no votes and the candidate who obtained the highest preferential was 16, two candidates obtained 3 votes, 8 candidates 2 votes, and 7 candidates one vote each. Two candidates from the Jathika Prajawadi Pakshaya received no votes while the top scorer for the party got 15 votes. Five candidates got three votes. Four candidates two votes each and eight candidates one vote each. Seven candidates from the Sri Lanka Pragathisheela Peramuna scored ducks while the top scorer failed to enter double figures and received only 7 votes. Five candidates obtained 4 votes, four candidates 3 votes each, four candidates 2 votes each, 9 candidates one vote each as they fared very poorly. Six candidates from the Ruhunu Janatha Pakshaya received no votes while the top scorer obtained 25 preferential votes. Two just managed to enter double figures. Six candidates obtained 3 votes, five candidates 2 votes and 10 candidates one vote each. The above performance was in a district which had 895,305 registered voters and each voter having three preferential votes. |
