by Nadira Gunatilleke The public now can directly make their complaints and observations about the obscene film shows, cut outs, and other pornographic publications to the Special Investigation Unit of the Cultural Affairs and the National Heritage Ministry. A spokesman from the Ministry said that on a directive of the Minister request has been made to the public to provide all relevant information either by mail or by dialing Telephone Nos. 0112-888503 or 077-3043476. Those willing to send information by post should address the letters to: The Special Investigation Unit, Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Ministry, 8 th Floor, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla. Cultural Affairs and the National Heritage Minister Vijitha Herath has set up this unit with a view to obtain direct participation of the public to do away with anti-cultural activities. "It is not possible to wipe out this type of nefarious activities instantly. There are obtacles the Ministry has to face from several quarters and the involvement of high officials and politicians is a problem which has to be faced tactfully. Hence the Ministry needs the public support in this respect. The ministry has already issued necssary instructions to the the police as well",he said. Sources also said that due to the import of low quality films to the country, the Sinhala cinema industry has faced a rapid decline during past two years. The lukewarm attitude of the Cultural Affairs Ministry is partly responsible for this state of affairs. |
