SLFP Ududunbara Chief Organiser Sarath Ekanayake is due to be sworn in as Central Provincial Council Chief Minister before Governor Monty Gopallawa on July 18. This is the third time Ekanayake will be the Central Province Chief Minister. He held this post in May 1999. In November 2000, with Nandimithra Ekanayake vacating the Chief Minister's post Ekanayake succeeded him and held the office till 2001, when UNP became the ruling party with CWC and Up-country People's front support. Ekanayake was the Opposition Leader in the Provincial Council of the Central Province until April 2004. |
