National Identity Cards (NIC) can be obtained within 24 hours if applicants provide correct information, Commissioner of Registration of Persons Vijaya Ranasinghe said. He said the Department can issue 400 NICs per day and those expecting to have their NICs within a day should pay Rs. 500 as service charge. The Commissioner said there was no need for people to go behind others and pay santhosam to get their NICs when all facilities are available to the public at the department. "I have information that there are individuals engaged in unlawful activities. I want the public to deal directly with the department without going behind middleman.I will have no option other than to institute legal action against those acting without respecting the law and when they can get the services of the department legally and directly," he said. He told the public to contact 2583199 if confronted with any problems. |
