Shehara thrills racing fans at Pannala track

Shehera de Silva the only woman racing driver compete along with male counterparts stole the limelight last Sunday at Pannala International Circuit winning the Ford Formula (Pre 85) 1600cc championship event for the Suntel WOW Trophy.

Shehara who took to Formula driving very recently following her father Rohan de Silva who is a driver with trade history of nearly three decades.

Shehara who drove a Nissan March earlier won few places. She has mastered the formula and shown tremendous improvement and outsmarted the experienced drivers Ravi Mayadunne and Romesh Paul to runners-up positions on this day.

This victory of her saw the motor racing fans thrilled. Rohan de Silva kept the Formula (Post 85) event entertaining for the spectators with his top class driving to win the event pushing back Dinesh Jayawardene and Romani de Silva.

These victories of Shehara and Rohan kept the mobile team flag flying. Rohan made it a double when he won the Group SLS event.

The Super Car event which was made a ten lap event saw the domination of Mitsubishi's. Dinesh Deheragoda who has a record number of wins on this track since its inception kept record intact winning the event.

He was closely followed by another super car event expert Aravinda Premadasa also in a Mitsubishi and Dan Dissanayake in his Petro Special Lancer. Deheragoda who is sponsored by Mitsubishi Marketeers United Motors drove his Evo VIII RS in style here.

Rizvi Farook in his Honda V-tec had the better off Javid Wahab and Sarath Pathirage in the Group SLA Cars for 1400-1600cc. Zakie Ismail, Nihal Premasiri won their events comfortably in Group N 8-10 kg. and 6-8 kg. class.

Shane Gunawardene after a long lapse came back on the track to win the motorcycles super event. He had to face stiff opposition from Rohana Jayaratne and Lucky Karunaweera. Shane was on a Honda XR.

Rohith de Silva played a dominant role to maintain his supremacy in the mini class winning the event for Group N one make mini cars.

Dilshan Hamdoon, Samin Attanayake and Sarath Pathirage were the other drivers who excelled on this day winning their respective events.

Krishan Dias was the only rider to win a double this day. He won the standard modified up to 250CC on his Yamaha TZR 250 and went onto win racing event up to 125cc on a Yamaha JZ 125cc.

Meanwhile Maduranga Caldera too won an event and had a placing. It was a top class motor racing fair witnessed by the fans at Pannala with the Suntel (WOW championship Round II).
