Golden Jubilarian Rev. Fr. Dalston Forbes O.M.I. celebrates 50 years as a priest on July 4. Born on October 15, 1926, he received his entire education at St. Peter's College, where he excelled in studies. After his matriculation, Fr. Forbes entered the University and got through his B.A. General Degree with a First class in Geography. He entered the Novitiate in 1947. As a Scholar he studied at the Gregorian University in Rome. He obtained his Licentiate in Philosophy and Theology, and his D.D. in 1958. He was Vice Rector of the National Seminary from 1958 to 1964 and the first Sri Lankan Rector from 1964 to 1972. He was a lecturer in Philosophy and Theology. Although Fr. Forbes was an erudite scholar, he remained very much a humble and Holy Priest of God. In his Apostolate, he served in many capacities. He was a Secretary, Resolutions Committee, National Synod 1969/1970. In Rome, he was a General Councillor, Asia Region 1972 to 1978. He started the Forbes House for Research in 1979. He was Superior of De Mazenod House, Mattakkuliya, from 1984 to 1990. He was the Executive Secretary of the Conference of Major Religious Superiors from 1988 to 1998. Fr. Forbes is at present the President of the Sri Lanka Association of Theology. He gave the forward thrust of Vatican II in Seminary Formation. At present he is the Chaplain of Carmel Convent.
