by Sarath Malalasekera Former Colombo District UNP MP Lilantha Perera, who had been remanded in connection with the alleged possession and sale of galvanized roofing sheets valued over Rs.2 million imported from India to be distributed free among 128,000 poor families, was yesterday further remanded by Colombo Additional Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya till July 8. Three other suspects, S. Pillai Shanmugam, Mohamed Hussain Faroos Jaufer and R. Gnanasekera, who had also been remanded in connection with the same case were refused bail and further remanded till July 8. The other suspect Karuppiah Sivakumar was earlier released on bail. The Magistrate allowed an application by SI R. M. V. Rajapaksa of the CCD to send the productions to the Government Analyst to obtain a report. Investigations are directed by CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda assisted by ASP Palitha Fernando, Inspector Nuwan Wedasinghe, OIC, CCD, SI Rajapaksa and a team of officers attached to the CCD. |
