Netherlands funds Rs100 m for INGRIN centre in Galle The Advisory Committee (PAC) of the project to set up the INGRIN Graphic and Media Centre in Galle held their first meeting at Wackwella, Galle. The project has been set up within the framework of the educational reforms that are being implemented by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. The objectives of the Knowledge Centre are to upgrade and add value to the general quality standards of Graphic and Media Industry in the Southern Province. Introducing and implementing innovative standardisation products and systems from the Netherlands into the local graphic media industry, providing e-courses and simulation software training to those already working in the industry as well as those who are about to enter the industry and providing specialised consultancy and service to the industry. The centre will also create an awareness of the graphic and media industry in general, with as special target group, school-leavers, graduates and entrepreneurs-to-be, putting emphasis on image-building, and at a more practical level, especially on job opportunities in the sector. This goal is pursued by providing training not only for special target groups such as people intending to become graphic media entrepreneurs, job seekers but also for unemployed graduates. The project is-co-funded by the PSOM-facility (Program for Co-operation with Emerging Markets) of the Dutch Ministry of Development Co-operation. The joint venture partners in this project are the INGRIN Institute of Printing and Graphics Colombo, Graphic Systems International and E.S. Sons Ltd on the local side, the Prodist International RvdH-Group and INGRIN the Netherlands on the Dutch side. The co-operation partners in this public-private enterprises are the Southern Provincial Council in Sri Lanka and EVD, the agency for international business and co-operation, which executes the PSOM-program on behalf of the Ministry of Development Co-operation, in the Netherlands. The planning is for the INGRIN Graphic Media Knowledge Centre - Galle to be opened in December. Netherlands will fund the project to the value of Rs. 100 million.
