Postal voting for PC elections on June 23,24

by Manjula Fernando

Postal voting for the forthcoming Provincial Council elections will be held on June 23 and 24, Elections Secretariat spokesperson K. Senanayake said.

The Elections Secretariat will hold elections to select members for six provincial councils: Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central, Uva on Saturday, July 10.

According to the Provincial Council Elections Act, all campaign activities should end forty eight hours prior to election day.

Elections was scheduled for the second week of July following a decision by the Government to hold Provincial Council elections on a single day to minimise disruption to public life and to cut down on expenditure. The election day was fixed for a Saturday to lessen disruption to day-to-day activities.

All the main political parties will be contesting in the provincial elections. Among the major parties, the Jathika Hela Urumaya has decided not to contest at the forthcoming polls.
